Big ain’t so easy

One of the comments I receive really often from vladville.com is the one from young entrepreneurs that follow what I do and how I do it. The emails are very flattering, everything from “I want to be where you are in 10 years” to “You keep on motivating me to do better” and so on and so forth. While anyone outside of OWN would ever categorize me as a motivational spaker, I seem to inspire people.
I tend not to respond to those emails though. Wonder why?
I’m here in New Orleans, at roughly midnight with my wife in for a few days of conferencing. The monkeys are holding the fort, I have no pressing deadlines or things to accomplish. I likely have about 2 hours of actual work ahead of me over the next 4 days. Katie went to sleep about an hour ago and I just happen to have nothing better to do than work on Shockey Monkey. So while all my friends are down there partying and drinking, I am taking a break from coding to write this blog post and clear my mind / chest for a minute. Pretty depressing, isn’t it?
But… unless you cut corners, thats the price of success. You have to miss out on things to make it big. I don’t neccessarily HAVE to miss out on things, I could walk out into the French Quarter in 5 minutes and find something to do – but I’m up here coding in the dark. Over 50% of Shockey Monkey was written in hotel rooms, airports and “meetings” – so until I figure out a way to polish up the message that its difficult to make a tradeoff between missing out on things or really not having much to worry about in the now and in the future…. I guess I won’t be replying to my very kind young Vladville readers.
